CGIE: the commemoration ceremony of Youssef Madjidzadeh, the prominent professor of archeology of Iran, and the book launch ceremony of “Sepehr Majd; Essays on the Archeology of the Iranian World and Beyond (In Honor of Dr. Youssef Madjidzadeh)”, which was published in March 2022 by the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia (Centre for Iranian and Islamic Studies), took place in the National Museum of Iran on Monday evening, the 30th of May, 2022.

At this event, Youssef Madjidzadeh, in a video message, thanked the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia for publishing this book and called Kazem Musavi Bojnurdi, the head of this research institute, his “dear friend”.

Masjed-Jamei said: Madjidzadeh had an extraordinary management power; In the early years of the Islamic revolution, there was a crisis in the attitude toward history, and there was an anti-history approach. But Madjidzadeh defended the field of archeology in humanities and resisted it so that it would not be merged with the field of history, which was significant at the time. Madjidzadeh successfully resisted the dissolution of this field of study and the Institute of Archeology of the University of Tehran.

Madjidzadeh never stopped working despite the misfortune that happened to him and started editing his books and articles. Among them is the book “History and Civilization of Mesopotamia”, which was chosen as the book of the year during my tenure at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and received the Presidential Award. This shows that although he was insulted and heartbroken, it did not lead him to retreat because he was concerned about his homeland.

“Sepehr Majd; Essays on the Archeology of the Iranian World and Beyond (In honor of Dr. Youssef Madjidzadeh)”, edited by Sajjad Alibaigi, Mohammadreza Miri, and Holly Pittman, is published in 950 pages and 500 copies.
