The High Council of the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia, consisting of the heads of the scientific departments and the high advisors, has direct supervision over all the research projects of this center. The council convenes to review, approve or reject encyclopedic entries, as well as to review new .research projects

Katayun Mazdapour

Katayun Mazdapour (born March 22, 1943) is an Iranian linguist and a leading researcher in the realm of Old Iranian Languages. She studied in Anoushiravan Dadgar high school in Tehran and received her bachelors, masters, and PhD from the University of Tehran. She was advised by Mehdi Aboulghasemi and co-advised by Mehrdad Bahar. In 1981, she joined the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies as an assistant research professor and she retired as a professor in 2012 from the same institution. In 1997, she won the title of Iranian Researcher of the Year, because of her book The Dialect of Zoroastrians of Yazd (In Persian). Her book, Word and its Meaning, from Middle Persian to Modern Persian, won the prestigious award of Iran’s Book of the Year Awards.

Farhad Daftary

Farhad Daftary (born 1938 in Brussels) is a Belgian-born Iranian-British Islamic scholar who is co-director and head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications at the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London.
Daftary received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. He is a freelance consulting editor of the Encyclopædia Iranica, co-editor (with W. Madelung) of the Encyclopædia Islamica, and the general editor of the Ismaili Heritage Series and the Ismaili Texts and Translations Series.

Reza Davari Ardakani (born 6 July 1933, in Ardakan) is an Iranian philosopher and a distinguished emeritus professor of philosophy at the University of Tehran. He is also the current president of the Iranian Academy of Sciences. He is known for his works on criticism of the Western Culture and thought.
In 1954, he entered the University of Tehran as an undergraduate, gaining a BA and in 1967 a PhD in philosophy there. From 1979 to 1981, he was dean at the faculty of literature and humanities, University of Tehran, and the head of Iranian National Commission for UNESCO from 1979 to 1982. Davari was the editor-in-chief of Farhang Journal.

Gholamreza Aavani (born 1943) is an Iranian philosopher and emeritus professor of philosophy at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. A former head of the Institute for Research in Philosophy, Aavani is a member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran and a steering committee Member of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies. He has also served as the Kenan Rifai Distinguished Professor of Islamic Studies at Beijing University, China, and is currently a research fellow at Al-Mahdi Institute.
Aavani graduated with a BA in philosophy in 1964 from the American University in Beirut. He received a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Tehran in 1968 and acquired his PhD in 1976 from the same university under the supervision of Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Aavani has the greatest influence on expediting the process of development and expansion of Iranian philosophy. He is also a steering committee member of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies and the first president of the International Association of Islamic Philosophy.

Nasrollah Pourjavady is an Iranian philosopher, Sufi scholar and a professor of philosophy at the University of Tehran in Tehran, Iran. He is the founder and former head of the Iran University Press and a permanent member of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature.
Pourjavady was born in Tehran, Iran. He received his master's degree and doctorate in philosophy from the University of Tehran. Pourjavady held academic positions at various institutions including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Colgate University, and the Gregorian University in Rome. He was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Prize for Research Excellence in 2005.

Mohammad Mojtahed Shabestari (born 1936 in Shabestar, Iran) is an Iranian philosopher, theologian, hermeneutist and former professor at University of Tehran.
Shabestari was a full professor of Islamic philosophy at the University of Tehran from 1985-2006, where he also taught comparative religion and theology.
He is one of the editors of the Great Encyclopedia of Islam, published in Tehran, and chairs the department of Theology and Sects of the Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia.

Fathollah Mojtaba'i
Fathollah Mojtaba'i

Fathollah Mojtaba'i (born December 10, 1927, Tehran) is an Iranian author and historian. He is a permanent member of Academy of Persian Language and Literature and a member of the faculty of the Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia.
In 1953, he received a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of the University of Tehran.
In 1960, he was sent abroad by the Ministry of Culture to get acquainted with new methods of writing textbooks. After a period of study and research in this field in the Columbia University in United States, he returned to Iran and was in charge of preparing and compiling literature textbooks for high schools.
In 1962, he was appointed as Iranian Cultural Counselor in Pakistan and the management of Iranian cultural houses in the city of Lahore.
He also received Masters in Comparative history of Religions from Harvard University. Then he continued his studies in History of Eastern Religions and Philosophy and finally in 1971 received his PhD in this field.

Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad (born 1945) is an Iranian Shia cleric and scholar.
He passed his Islamic education in Arabic literature, Quran, Hadith, Islamic philosophy, theology, and jurisprudence at the Fayzieh School in the Qom. He achieved the degree of Ijtihad in 1970. Also, he continued his modern academic education in Islamic Philosophy and graduated on 1969 from Tehran University. After that he achieved his Master of Science degree in Islamic Jurisprudence on 1980 from Tehran University. In 1996, he went to University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium and earned his Ph.D. degree.

Mehdi Mohaghegh (born 1930, Mashad, Iran) is an Iranian scholar specializing in Persian literature, Islamic studies and philosophy.
He has a Ph.D. in both Ilahiyyat (theology) and Persian language and literature; he joined The Faculty of Literature and Humanities at Tehran University in 1960. He has been teaching at the School of Oriental and African Studies in England (1961-1963), McGill University Institute of Islamic Studies in Canada (1965-1998), and The International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization in Malaysia (1991-1996). He is founder and director of the McGill Institute of Islamic Studies Tehran Branch since 1968, where he has collaborated with Toshihiko Izutsu and Herman Landolt on several important projects.

She has won numerous awards including Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and Persian Cypress Award (an Iranian Cultural Heritage Prize) in 2016.
