The condolence message of the head of the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia after the passing of Grand Ayatollah Musavi Bojnurdi

CGIE: The great Marjaʻ of Shiʻa and the faqih of Ahl al-Bayt, Grand Ayatollah Haj Seyyed Mohammad Mahdi Musavi Bojnurdi, passed away at the age of eighty-eight on the evening of the 19th of the holy month of Ramadan, the anniversary of the night that Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was struck.

Following his passing, Kazem Musavi Bojnurdi, the head of the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia, issued a condolence message:

“To Allah, we belong, and to Him, we will return”

I received the news of the death of the wise jurist, active scholar, my precious and honorable brother, the Grand Ayatollah Haj Seyyed Mohammad Mehdi Musavi Bojnurdi, with the utmost sadness and grief.

He was the grandson of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Abu al-Hassan Isfahani and the eldest son of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Hasan Musavi Bojnurdi.

He completed his seminary studies to the highest level in the Hawza of Najaf and received permission for ijtihad.

This knowledgeable scholar was one of the most prominent students of the scholars of his time, such as Ayatollahs Sayyed Hasan Musavi Bojnurdi, Sheikh Hossein Helli, Sayyed Mahmud Shahrudi, and Sayyed Mohsen Hakim.

After years of studying and teaching in that noble seminary, he immigrated to Tehran fifty-two years ago. For half a century, he was engaged in teaching at higher levels and courses of fiqh and principles of jurisprudence, and many students benefited from his knowledge.

His most significant works were Tahrir al-Usul, Kitab al-Tahāra, and Kitab al-Baiʻ, all of which speak of his dynamism in jurisprudence.

Undoubtedly, the loss of this bright scholar is an irreparable loss for Islam and Muslims.

I sympathize with Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), the Supreme Leader, his wife, children, followers, and students on the loss of this divine scholar. I pray for his soul in these days and nights that belong to Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
