“Sepehr Majd”, a tribute to a lifetime of archeological activities of Youssef Madjidzadeh

The Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopaedia (Centre for Iranian and Islamic Studies) released the book “Sepehr Majd; Essays on the Archeology of the Iranian World and Beyond (In Honor of Dr. Youssef Madjidzadeh)”, edited by Sajjad Alibaigi, Mohammadreza Miri, and Holly Pittman.

The Festschrift of Dr. Youssef Madjidzadeh is published.

Youssef Madjidzadeh is an international figure from the hard-working and self-made generation of Iranologists and archaeologists. Most Iranian archaeologists have either been direct students of Madjidzadeh or learned much from his books, articles, lectures, or field activities.

The significance of archeology and related studies is evident to Iranian history and civilization researchers. Such studies is beneficial for identifying the political history and the history of art and artefacts, and economic and social relations. In sum, the life of the “Iranian man” from the dawn of history to later times must first be sought in archaeological studies.

Archaeological research is one of the exciting topics in universities and scientific societies of the world and has a brilliant history in Iran. Undoubtedly, the scientific efforts of archeological professors played a considerable role in understanding the history of Iran, and those interested in the culture and civilization of Iran appreciate them. A significant part of the progress of archaeological studies in Iran is due to the efforts of Dr. Youssef Madjidzadeh, the author, translator, and lecturer. As a sign of gratitude and in honor of his scientific position, the authors of this Festschrift have dedicated their articles to professor Madjidzadeh.
