The Centre’s Publications Council, considering the urgent need to identify Persian articles for the compilation of encyclopedia entries and to reach the extensive facilities of the centre’s library and cooperate with other libraries, decided to take the responsibility of continuing the series of Persian articles index (Index Iranicus). It contains the bibliographical information of articles on Iranian subjects in periodicals and other collective publications.
So far, ten volumes have been published from this series, one of the Iranian studies’ most important research tools. The first six volumes were compiled and edited with the outstanding efforts of Iraj Afshar.
The first volume (1911-1959) contains the bibliographic information of 5993 articles.
The second volume (1960-1966) contains the bibliographic information of 4643 articles.
The third volume (1967-1971) contains the bibliographic information of 5458 articles.
The fourth volume (1972-1981) contains the bibliographic information of 11486 articles.
The fifth volume (1982-1991) contains the bibliographic information of 12,759 articles.
The sixth volume (1992-1997) contains the bibliographic information of 13959 articles.
The seventh volume (1998-2004) contains the bibliographic information of 23810 articles.
The eighth volume (2005-2006) contains the bibliographic information of 10,000 articles.
The ninth volume (2007-2008) contains the bibliographic information of 10,000 articles.
Volume ten (2009-2010) contains the bibliographic information of 12,733 articles.
The Index Iranicus is one of our cultural and national heritages, which belongs to the world of Iranology and all researchers. Every step that is taken towards its completion aids in enriching the culture of the country.
