The book “Khur and Biabanak through the Course of History,” authored by Sayyid ʿAlī Al-e Dāvūd, has been published by the Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia (Center for Iranian and Islamic Studies).
CGIE: In his introduction, Kāẓim Mūsavī Bojnurdī, the CEO of the Centre for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia (CGIE) writes: “Among the important regions of Iran, whose desert secrets astonish every visitor, is Khur and Biabanak—a place that has produced many notable figures throughout history and holds a special place in Iranian culture and civilization. The most famous is the late Habib Yaghmaei, a poet and distinguished editor of Yaghma magazine, whose three decades of work in preserving Iranian culture and the Persian language is remarkable and a source of pride.”
In the preface, the author Sayyid ʿAlī Al-e Dāvūd writes: “My birthplace—Khur and Biabanak—is a desert and little-known region, located almost in the center of Iran on the edge of the central desert. They say when Muḥammad Shah Qajar asked Yaghma Jandaqi for the exact location of his birthplace, he described it in various ways and finally added: if Iran is likened to a sleeping lion, its head is in Jolfa, its tail in Chabahar, and Khur and Biabanak lies in the middle.”
Due to its remoteness and being surrounded by desert, there is little information about Khur and Biabanak in old texts. Over time, trade routes changed, and Jandaq became a stop on the north-south route of Iran, gaining more fame than other villages in the area. Until the late Qajar era, scholars from all villages in Khur and Biabanak identified themselves as Jandaqi. Today, the situation has changed: the region is no longer isolated, the Khur-Tabas road has opened, and the caravan route from Jandaq to Semnan is now paved, with hundreds of cars and buses passing daily.
