The main responsibilities of the Department of Philosophy are to compile articles about following subject areas: Prominent philosophers, well-known philosophic trends and schools of thoughts, and important terms, concepts and works. Many articles in the Great Islamic Encyclopedia are about Moslem philosophers as well as other philosophers that their thoughts and works have influenced the Islamic philosophy and philosophers. Thus, historical approach to thoughts and ideas about philosophic terms and concepts are emphasized in articles. Doing research and citing original sources in different periods and concerning springs of philosophers' ideas are key characteristics of such articles. In addition to permanent and dependant members, the department of Philosophy invites other researchers in scientific and research institutes for writing articles.
